Discover how to prepare the delicious Selva Negra cake, an iconic dessert from Latin America. This easy recipe will take you to authentic flavors in every bite.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease the cake pans.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until creamy.
Add the milk, oil and vanilla to the egg-sugar mixture. Mix well.
Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a homogeneous dough is obtained.
Divide the batter evenly among the pans and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the biscuits cool in the molds for 10 minutes, then remove them and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
STEP 2
Drain the canned cherries and reserve 1/2 cup of juice.
Drizzle the cake layers with the cherry liqueur and the reserved juice.
Spread a layer of whipped cream over the first layer of sponge cake.
Add drained cherries on top of the cream and place the next layer of sponge cake on top.
Repeat the process until you have used all the cake layers, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
Garnish with chocolate shavings and whole cherries.
Notes
You can adjust the amount of cherry liqueur according to your taste preference.
Some variations include adding cherry syrup between the cake layers to give it an extra touch of flavor.
