Ingredients

  • 2 cups of wheat flour.

  • 1 cup cocoa powder.

  • 1 ½ teaspoons of baking soda.

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder.

  • ½ teaspoon salt.

  • 2 cups of sugar.

  • 4 eggs.

  • 1 cup of milk.

  • ½ cup vegetable oil.

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

  • 1 cup of canned cherries.

  • ¼ cup cherry liqueur (Kirsch).

  • 2 cups whipping cream.

  • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar.

  • Chocolate shavings for decoration.

Instructions

  • STEP 1
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease the cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until creamy.
  • Add the milk, oil and vanilla to the egg-sugar mixture. Mix well.
  • Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a homogeneous dough is obtained.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the pans and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the biscuits cool in the molds for 10 minutes, then remove them and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
  • STEP 2
  • Drain the canned cherries and reserve 1/2 cup of juice.
  • Drizzle the cake layers with the cherry liqueur and the reserved juice.
  • Spread a layer of whipped cream over the first layer of sponge cake.
  • Add drained cherries on top of the cream and place the next layer of sponge cake on top.
  • Repeat the process until you have used all the cake layers, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings and whole cherries.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of cherry liqueur according to your taste preference.
  • Some variations include adding cherry syrup between the cake layers to give it an extra touch of flavor.
